The Five Element Series was created to introduce and demystify the use of the Chinese elements. Everything that we do is somehow an expression of elemental energies. For example, if we have a wood element imbalance, we may become easily angered. If the imbalance is not addressed, over time it may become a pattern which can create an excess in some elements and a deficiency in others. This elemental imbalance can be temporary or it can be lifelong.
BALANCING THE 5 ELEMENTS
Just as elements can become imbalanced through improper diet, climatic conditions, too much stress, lack of exercise or emotional issues, so can the elements be re-balanced by a satisfying meal, a tranquil setting or good company. The balance of our health rests with ability to re-balance, on a daily basis, our internal elemental energies.
The five elements are forces of nature and, in many cultures, are considered to be the substance of all things and the regulator of all processes. The descriptive language associated with the elements includes both the extrinsic aspects of the elements as well as those that are intrinsic to us. Thus, the elements are considered to be simultaneously metaphorical and real. For example, the earth element can be described as the stability and solidity within our bodies, it can also be described as the actual ground substance, the solid formation of dirt, rock and other matter that we walk upon.
Many of our illnesses today, even those without a label, spring from this lack of harmonious interaction with the raw natural elements.
